2025/26 Victorian Junior Basketball League Western Port Steelers TRYOUTS
Western Port Steelers are excited to announce their try-out sessions for the upcoming 2026 season. These try outs are open to all returning Steelers players and transferring Junior representative players.
Tryout Registration
Online registrations for our upcoming representative tryouts are now open.
All players intending on trying out must register their registration via the PlayHQ online portal – registration button link below.
Please note, that online registration via the PlayHQ portal above is the only avenue to register for the upcoming tryouts.
Only players that have registered will be allowed to enter and participate in the Western Port Steelers U12-U18 Tryouts.
No walk-ups will be permitted entry.
These Tryouts will be progressive – i.e. athletes will be invited through to the next round.
Non attendance to a Tryout needs to be explained via an email to: tryouts@wpba.com.au
You will NOT need to attend the New Player Tryouts on 14 September if you have previously played Representative basketball (including Regional Development League) or U18s.
Tryout Registrations will close at 5:30pm on Monday 1st October 2025.
Important Notes:
- All players must be under the specified age as of 31 December 2026.
- Players born in 2018 or later are not eligible for the 2025/26 season.
Age Groups:
U12: Born in (2015, 2016, 2017)
U14: Born in (2013, 2014)
U16: Born in (2011, 2012)
U18: Born in (2009, 2010)
Those that are coming from another representative program will need a Permission to Train (PTT) from your previous club/association. If we do not receive a PTT from your previous club/association prior to your tryout session, you will not be permitted to participate. To request a PTT via the Basketball Victoria website. Note, the PTT form will open on 1 September 2025: click HERE for the link from 1 September for the PTT form if required.
All sessions will be held at: Somerville Recreation Centre (14 Edward Street Somerville)

All players are required to bring a basketball, a drink bottle and appropriate training gear (reversible top or bring along a dark and a light top).
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS ANY PLAYER TO WHERE CLUB/ASSOCIATION UNIFORMS OR ANY IDENTIFYING APPAREL TO TRYOUTS!
All selected Steelers players are expected to play in the Western Port Basketball Association Domestic Competition.
