Senior Representative Program (BigV) Division One Women Head Coach

The Western Port Basketball Association is continually striving to be a BigV force on the Mornington Peninsula, currently with senior men’s and senior women’s competing also having both a female and male teams competing in the youth league divisions.

Primary Objectives

To develop and sustain a strong core group of players to compete in the Big V competition, whilst building a pathway for Western Port Junior Steelers through our VJBL and Youth league programs. Work with our Youth League women’s coach and the directions of the senior representative committee and WPBA general committee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work effectively with key stakeholders.
  • Work within designated team budget.
  • Channel all communications through the WPBA senior representative committee.
  • Recruit suitably experienced players and team staff to the program to enhance the core playing group with a focus on developing our own.
  • Perform an extensive pre-season for the season including training and practice matches.
  • Attend all training sessions, games and tournaments as fixtured.
  • Ability to support where needed WPBA VJBL program coaches.
  • Work closely with the Youth League coach and meet on a regular basis.
  • Provide a summary report of the performance of the team and players at the end of the season.
  • Adhere to the Basketball Victoria Codes of Conduct & Big V relative policies.
  • Adhere to the Western Port Big V Program Policies to ensure the achievement of desired outcomes.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop players and teams.
  • Demonstrated history in basketball with a passion to develop at the desired level.
  • Able to lead, train and communicate with players in a disciplined, professional and informative manner.
  • Strong communications skills with a strong Coaching Philosophy.
  • Association Coach (Level 2) Accreditation and equivalent experience a must.
  • Must have Working With Children Check

Senior Representative Program (BigV) Youth League Men Head Coach

The Western Port Steelers has a proud history and is continually striving to be a BigV force on the Mornington Peninsula. The Western Port BigV program is currently made up of four teams – Championship Men, Division One Women, Youth League 2 Men, and Youth League 2 Women.

Due to this, the BigV Coaches need to have a holistic view of the program and understand that he/she is not only coaching for today but have a clear view on the future by working to develop athletes and coaches in the U18 and U21 teams.

PRIMARY DUTIES

To work under the guidance of the Senior Big V Coach whilst providing positive leadership, management, direction and coaching of WPBA’s youth men’s team. Have effective and positive player relationships, including player recruitment of junior WPBA players;

Assist with the identification, development and promotion of WPBA juniors consistent with their potential to play at the highest available level, providing input and Liaising with WPBA director of coaching and senior men’s coach.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Club level (Old level 1) Accreditation
  • Demonstrated history, knowledge and understanding at the desired level in basketball with a passion to develop
  • Ability to lead, train and communicate with players in a disciplined, professional and informative manner.
  • Work effectively with key stakeholders.
  • Channel all communication regarding BigV program through WPBA senior rep committee
  • Attend all training sessions, games and tournaments.
  • Recruitment of both senior and junior players for the Big V squads
  • Report directly to and Work closely with the Senior Men’s coach and meet on a regular basis to discuss the program and ways to improve it and ensure a unified senior men’s program.
  • Strong communications skills
  • Share coaching philosophies and knowledge
  • Adhere to the Basketball Victoria Codes of Conduct and BigV relative policies
  • Adhere to the Western Port BigV Program Policies to ensure the achievement of desired outcomes
  • Have a current Working With Children Check

Community Basketball Officers

WPA POSITIONS VACANT: We are always looking for enthusiastic and engaging coaches to join our team. Our Community Basketball Officers are crucial to our organisation and are key to help drive the love and passion for new basketballers at the beginning and immediate skill level stage.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Delivery: Contribute to the delivery of participation programs (including school programs) in line with the priorities and targets as set by Western Port Basketball Association. Support the delivery of existing Learn to Play and provide recommendations for new programs, including but not limited to Aussie Hoops, Sporting Schools, Baller Mums, All-Abilities and Wheelchair Basketball Programs.
Customer Service: Deliver a positive experience by exercising a high degree of judgement and initiative focused on first point of contact resolution. This role is the first point of contact for players and families and their positive experience is crucial.
Leadership & Culture: Contribute to building a high performing culture across Western Port Basketball across areas to foster team cohesion, providing support, advice and assistance to Western Port Basketball staff, volunteers and stakeholders.
What we are looking for:
Availability during the day: we are especially keen to hear from people that have availability during business hours. We aren’t saying every day – the majority of our participation programs run during school times.
A passion for basketball and engaging young people. We are looking for people that can create a great atmosphere and engage participants during their first bounces.
You will need a licence and access to a reliable vehicle – there is a fuel reimbursement for sessions delivered away from our stadium.
First Aid Certificates (HLTAID011) and Working with Children Check (or the ability to obtain prior to commencing) are essential.
We would also be happy if you hold a Club Coaching Accreditation (not essential).
