2025 Steelers Regional Development League

Congratulations to the athletes who have registered to be a part of the new Western Port Steelers Regional Development League.

The Regional Development League (RDL) is a brand-new basketball competition in Victoria, Australia, that provides a pathway for young players to develop their skills and join the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL). The RDL is run by Basketball Victoria.

What the RDL does

  • Provides a pathway for young players to develop their skills

  • Provides development for coaches and referees
  • Helps players learn the VJBL system

  • Gives players the opportunity to compete in a weekly competition (Fridays)

  • Creates a development pathway for players, coaches, and referees

How the RDL works

  • The RDL runs alongside the VJBL competition

  • The RDL includes a 5-week grading period, a 14-week home and away season, and a 3-week finals period

Why the RDL is important

  • The RDL helps players, coaches, and referees develop the skills they need to play at a higher level than domestic or recreational leagues

  • The RDL helps players prepare for a career in basketball, from domestic to state, national, and international levels
